A Different Approach

"If we want to get things done in Washington D.C., it’s not going to happen with the same, old way of doing things and with the same old talking points we’ve heard a million times before."

Alan Khazei has a thirty year track record proving a different way of doing things can lead to big results in our local communities and our nation’s capital. That’s how Alan built City Year and saved AmeriCorps. The COVID crisis, like the Great Depression, has exposed the gross inequities of our system, demanding a progressive reinvention on the order of the New Deal. Alan will bring new ideas and a proven spirit of innovation to Washington to help protect the health and financial security of all.

BIG IDEAS, BIG CHANGE

Emergency Wage Support

Our government must act quickly, decisively and comprehensively to minimize the spread of COVID-19, prepare for a wider outbreak and caring for acute patients, and make government investments to ensure American families weather the economic downturn. Alan’s innovative proposal for Emergency Wage Support will ensure workers stay employed and small businesses stay open.

Fix Our Democracy

Our government is fundamentally flawed. Decades of corruption and division have left Washington incapable of responding to our people’s priorities. In 2018, Alan founded Democracy Entrepreneurs to help strengthen our democracy. Alan is proposing critical reforms including Supreme Court term limits, automatic voter registration, expansion of early and mail-in voting, and eliminating the Electoral College.

Restore the Dream Accounts

For too long, we have witnessed a fraying of the American Dream while younger Americans become saddled with crushing, student debt. As a son of immigrants and product of the American Dream, Alan is advancing an innovative policy proposal that provides young Americans who volunteer to serve with significant assets to pay for college, worker training, a down payment on a home or funds to start a small business.

People's Hearing for Gun Safety

Alan saved AmeriCorps in the House from right-wing funding cuts by organizing a first of its kind, around the clock, People’s Hearing with testimony from 48 states. It worked. That’s why if elected, Alan will hold a non-stop People’s Hearing for Gun Safety. The hearing will continue until overwhelmingly popular measures are adopted, including universal background checks, closing loopholes, and banning assault weapons and high capacity magazines.

Truth, Justice, and Reconciliation

On racial injustice, Martin Luther King warned ‘wait’ has almost always meant ‘never’ and to beware of the ‘paralysis of analysis.’ With George Floyd protests in 50 states, Alan wants congress to invest $50 million in congressional, state and local hearings to empower citizens to draft and support the very policies to transform American policing and address racial injustice in our health care, education, criminal justice and economic systems—under deadline.

PASS THE MAJORITY AGENDA

As with Gun Safety measures, vast majorities of our district and Americans demand action on:

  • delivering Universal Affordable Healthcare as a right
  • tackling the Climate Crisis by passing the Green New Deal
  • making College Education affordable to every American who wants one

Alan is committing to passing this majority agenda by helping to build the same kind of inclusive, broad coalition and movement he built to establish our domestic peace corps.

What Voters Need to Know

Primary voters in the Boston and Providence DMAs need to see, as soon as possible, that Alan Khazei puts people before politics. That’s why he founded City Year, led a movement to build AmeriCorps, and helped create over one million jobs fighting poverty, fixing schools and supporting seniors. It’s why he helped to organize national marches for women’s rights and gun safety.
