Ensuring Equality for Members of the LGBT Community

Alan is an incredibly strong supporter of equal rights for all citizens. At City Year and Be The Change, Inc., he hired LGBT individuals into the highest levels of the organization, and City Year’s very diverse corps has always included many people from the LGBT community. As Senator, Alan will work hard to ensure that Massachusetts remains on the right side of history, and that all LBGT Americans win the right to marry whom they choose, adopt children, and receive the equal benefits and equal wages that they deserve.

In the US Senate, Alan Khazei will support legislation such as the National Hate Crimes Hotline Act, the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, and the Uniting American Families Act - a bill that would provide same-sex couples with the same immigration rights as married heterosexual couples.

Finally, Alan agrees with President Obama that the Defense of Marraige Act is unconstitutional and will work to see that DOMA is repealed by supporting Senator Diane Feinstein’s Respect for Marriage Act which is co-sponsored by Massachusetts Senator John Kerry.
