Commonsense Gun Laws and Responsible Ownership
Alan supports commonsense gun laws
and ownership for responsible citizens. He has lost friends to gun violence,
and has seen first-hand the terrible pain that gun violence bring to our urban
communities. We need to get guns off our streets, and away from our kids and
teens. Alan respects responsible gun owners, like his grandfather who was a
hunter. Rather than detracting from their interests, protecting our community
from gun violence helps them as well. As the father of two young children,
he also believes that reasonable policies are needed to create a safe society.
- 214 Massachusetts residents were killed with guns in 2008.
- 85% of gun owners support background checks at gun shows.
- 90% of gun owners support plugging gaps in federal databases enforcing existing requirements for stocking those databases and forcing agencies to swap that information.
- Renewing the Assault Weapons Ban - A position shared with Republican Senator Richard Lugar.
- The Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act - Limiting the size of ammunition magazines which is also supported by Republican Representative Peter King of New York
