Fighting for Pay Equality
All Americans deserve equal pay for equal work. But Massachusetts women average $45,062 per year in salary, while men earn $56,902. This wage gap of $11,840 should be closed, and special effort is needed because for Hispanics and African-Americans the situation is even worse.
As a US Senator, Alan Khazei will vote to support the Paycheck Fairness Act to prevent wage discrimination and retaliation against workers. This bill was passed by the House of Representatives in 2009, but Scott Brown joined 39 Republican Senators to kill the Paycheck Fairness Act in November 2010 by a margin of just 2 votes.
Additionally, Alan will fight for policies that protect Americans from all forms of gender discrimination, including pregnancy discrimination and sexual harassment.
